Water sampling

Yesterday and today I helped ChiaTe to collect water samples for his project. We departed around 8:30 a.m from the IUI dock. There is less wind during the early morning so the conditions are better for sampling.

We collected samples of surface water in 15 different locations. In each site, we collected 1 liter of filtered seawater for trace metal analyses and we filtered 1 gallon of water through a 0.40 um filter that is going to be used for particulate trace metal analyses. We also measured the salinity and temperature of seawater, which were approximately 40 ppt and 25ÂșC, respectively.

When we returned to the lab, we had a chance to see kite surfers enjoying the wind; some of them were really really close to the boat.
